Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in a statement today said the convention is to connect more than 25 million Indians in over 250 countries, to foster a closer bond among the diaspora (people settled far from their ancestral homelands) and recognise the contributions of global Indians to India 's economic growth.
"The convention provides the largest platform to PIOs (people of Indian origin) and NRIs (non-resident Indians) to exchange views and network on issues of common interest. It also markets India 's potential across various sectors and explore global economic and social synergies," said the statement.
The convention this time around will focus on consumer goods, education, engineering, entertainment, fashion, financial services, handicraft, investment, technology and tourism.
Among the highlights of the convention are seminars about Social Entrepreneurship-Water and Solar Energy: Investment and R & D, inaugural address by India 's prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh and conferment of Pravasi Samman Awards by the President of India, Smt Pratibha Devisingh Patil.
