NEW DELHI (NNN-UNI) -- Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today defended Budget 2012-13 against criticism that many hard decisions which should have been taken were avoided, citing 'the political situation on the ground' in obvious reference to the ruling Congress being short of number in the Rajya Sabha (Upper House) and the compulsion to accommodate the demands of the allies.
Interacting with industry leaders here, Mr. Mukherjee admitted the need of some decisions saying he could not do many things which could have been done.
The Finance Minister said he had to keep in mind the prevailing ground reality that a "decision taken in one House is reversed or changed within 24 hours, when the same proposal approved by one House comes to the other House."
Mr S S Palanimanickam, Minister of State (Revenue) and Mr Namo Narain Meena, Minister of State (Expenditure & Financial Services) also participated in the interaction.--NNN-UNI
