DEHRADUN, India (NNN-UNI) -- Yoga guru Swami Ramdev’s close aide Balkrishna, who was arrested from Patanjali Yogpith in Haridwar in a case of securing passport fraudulently among others, was today produced before special CBI court here amid tight security.
Balkrishna was arrested by CBI yesterday.
Since morning a number of Swami Ramdev and Balkrishna's supporters and Bharat Swabhiman activists gathered outside the CBI office here waving flags and placards and raising anti-CBI and anti-government slogans while hailing the Yoga guru and his close aide.
Meanwhile, CBI spokesperson said Balkrishna was arrested after a non-bailable warrant was issued against him by a CBI special court. He was to be produced before the court within 24 hours of his arrest as per rules.
The investigating agency will seek his remand while Balkrishna's counsel go for bail.
Medical test of the arrested was conducted at a government hospital here yesterday.
Balkrishna was arrested after the special court issued NBW against him when he failed to appear before the court where the CBI had submitted a charge sheet against him for allegedly obtaining passport fraudulently on fake documents, fake educational degrees and dual citizenship.
Earlier, the High Court had dismissed Balkrishna’s plea for stay against the charge sheet and asked him to surrender before the CBI court on July 20. He, however, failed to appear before the court.
Meanwhile, Baba Ramdev lashed out at the government accusing it of ''seeking vendetta'' against him for leading the anti-corruption and anti-black money campaign by targeting his friend and close aide. -- NNN-UNI
