NEW DELHI, India (NNN-Bernama) -- The Indian government is aware that China is developing infrastructure in the border regions across India and a constant watch is being kept on developments having a bearing on national security, said the External Affairs Ministry.

Minister of State in External Affairs E Ahamed said that the government is aware that China is building infrastructure in border areas opposite India in Tibet and Xinjiang Autonomous Regions, Press Trust of India reported.

These infrastructure projects include the Qinghai-Tibet railway line with a proposed extension up to Xigaze and Nyingchi, and development of road and airport facilities, Ahamed told the Upper House of parliament on Thursday.

On steps taken in this matter, Ahamed said: "The government is giving careful and special attention to this development to meet our strategic and security requirements and also to facilitate the economic development of those areas."

"The government is taking all necessary measures to safeguard security," he added.

On the land boundary agreement with Bangladesh, External Affairs Minister S M Krishna said that a protocol has been signed during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to the country in September last year.

The protocol addresses outstanding land boundary issues pertaining to un-demarcated land boundary, exchange of enclaves and territories in adverse possession. -- NNN-BERNAMA
