NEW DELHI, India (NNN-Xinhua) -- Two Indian Air Force choppers collided mid-air in the western state of Gujarat on Thursday, killing six personnel on board the helicopters, a senior police official said.

"The mid-air collision between two Mi-17 helicopters took place over paddy fields in a village near the state's Jamnagar district at 12.30 p.m. (local time). All the six air force personnel on board the two training choppers, including two pilots, were killed in the mishap," he said on condition of anonymity.

Local TV channels reported that at least three fire engines have rushed to the site where the mangled choppers crashed after the collision.

However, there has been no civilian casualty on the ground, the official said.

"A probe has been ordered into the incident," he added.

The Indian Air Force has yet to confirm the death toll. -- NNN-XINHUA
