New York– US President Barack Obama has issued an executive order for imposing sanctions on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and six other top leaders of the country.
The US Department of the Treasury in its Wednesday statement said the order which was signed by President Obama will put Syrian government under more intensive pressures.

According to the order, any properties in the US belonging to the Syrian leaders mentioned in the order will be confiscated and none of the Americans are entitled to operate exchanges with them.

Analysts believe that the very existence of a country like Syria which is against the US and the Zionist regime policies is presenting huge challenge to the hegemonic grip of America over the world as well as the authority of Israel in the region.

Elliott Abrams, former chief Middle East adviser on the National Security Council in his essay released by Washington Post has explicitly expressed his support for 'change' in Syrian system.

John McCain, the Republican nominee for president in the 2008 US elections who is famous in the Congress for his blind support for the Zionist regime has criticized Obama over his insufficient efforts against the Syrian government.

Now is time to support protesters against al-Assad, McCain has said.

All this change in the political behavior of the US in front of Syria is coming midst the growing sense danger on the part of Washington leaders who see the probability of a toppled Zionist regime even more iminant thanks to the recent uprisings in the region.

Relations between Syria and the Untied States started to deteriorate in March 2003 following the occupation of Iraq by the US forces, an act which Syria was against.

Since 2004, the United States has been imposing various economic sanctions on Syria.  -IRNA
