The government has approved the inclusion of names of some castes and communities in the central list of other backward castes in an effort to enable OBCs in 14 states to avail benefits of reservation in central government services. A meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday accepted the proposal of the National Commission for Backward Classes to amend the central list of OBCs. The states where OBCs will benefit are Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal and Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Puducherry.(NewsonAIR)
