In Nepal, the Maoist has returned to power after a gap of two years, when the UCPN (maoist) party Vice Chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai ,57, was elected as the 35th Prime Minister of Nepal. He defeated his rival Nepali Congress Ram Chandra Poudel by 105 votes. Bhattarai got 340 votes while Ram Chandra Poudel received 235 votes out of the 575 cast in the Parliament on Sunday.
The UCPN (maoist) party is the largest party in the Constituent Assembly of Nepal. TheSamyukta Loktantantik Madhesi Morcha and other fringe parties chose to support newly elected Prime Minister Bhattarai. Prior to voting Bhattarai made a four point deal with the Morcha an alliance of five parties having 66 votes and the deal was signed between the Maoists and the alliance. The maoist has 236 legislators in the Constituent Assembly.
Bhattarai is the fourth Prime Minister since 2008 elections and he was the Finance Minister in the Puspha Kamal Dahal's cabinet. Bhattarai has replaced former Prime Minister Jhalnath Khanal, who resigned on 14th of August. (GNP News Desk)
