CAIRO (NNN-KUNA) -- The Arab League proposed on Saturday a full-fledge initiative to supporting Jerusalem through inviting the Arab private sector to fund projects in the occupied city.The initiative, proposed during a meeting between Arab League, the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), special Arab organizations and Arab financial institutes, provides a highly-transparent mechanism to follow up its implementation.
The League proposed that Jerusalem benefit from the initiative to backing small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs), which was launched during the Arab economic summit in Kuwait in January 2009.
It called for establishing Arab-Palestine partnerships to supporting SMEs in and around occupied Jerusalem.
It proposed that every Palestinian either working for PNA or in any Arab country to donate part of his monthly salary to Jerusalem.
The League urged boosting awareness among the Palestinians living in Jerusalem vis-a-vis the Israeli occupation authorities' daily violations of their rights.
It called for boosting cooperation between the PNA and UNESCO to protect the historic and cultural sites in the city. -- NNN-KUNA
