BANGALORE, India (NNN-Bernama) -- A five-seater aircraft developed jointly by India's public sector National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) and Mahindra Aerospace has made its successful maiden flight.
The 45-minute first flight on Sept 1 in Australia tested its basic handling, subsequent flights evaluated stability and control, reports Press Trust of India quoting NAL sources.
The C-NM5 is the first aircraft developed in a public-private partnership venture in India.
With non-retractable landing gear and a spacious cabin with large access doors, it is an all-metal aircraft powered by a Lycoming IO-540 engine.
The development of the aircraft is a milestone in the collaborative aircraft development programme of NAL, a constituent laboratory of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, and private business giant Mahindra group which owns Mahindra Aerospace.
The aircraft was developed with the technical help of three development teams -– CSIR-NAL, Mahindra Aerospace and GippsAero (a Mahindra Aerospace subsidiary in Australia), sources said.
They spent nearly three years designing the aircraft using cutting-edge design and analysis tools.
The prototype was built over 10 months by the rapid prototyping team at GippsAero in their facilities near Melbourne, Australia. -- NNN-BERNAMA
