India: Hearing on Anti-Defection Plea against Six MLAs on Dec 2

JAIPUR (NNN-PTI): Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Deependra Singh Shekhawat has fixed Dec. 2 as the next date of hearing in a case pertaining to defection of six MLAs, who were elected on BSP ticket but later joined the ruling Congress.

Counsel for the petitioner Bhagwan Singh, a BSP functionary, submitted that the defection was unconstitutional and the Speaker should settle the matter at the earliest.

A former MLA from Bari constituency Jaswant Singh, who had also challenged sitting MLA Girraj Singh Malinga's move to join Congress, demanded day-to-day hearing.

Besides Malinga, Rajendra Gudha, Rajkumar Sharma, Ramesh Meena, Ramkesh Neena and Murari Meena had joined congress in 2009.

Whereas Gudha, Murari and Rajkumar Sharma are ministers of state, Malinga, Ramesh and Ramkesh are parliamentary secretaries in the gehlot government. -NNN-PTI
