Kuwait presents prize for control of cancer to Iranian doctor

CAIRO (NNN-KUNA) -- Kuwait's Ministry of Health on Sunday awarded Iranian Doctor Ali Reza Ansari the country's prize for the Control of Cancer, Cardiovascular Diseases and Diabetes in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.

The Minister of Health Hilal Al-Sayer presented the award to Ansari in a ceremony held at the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on the sidelines of the 58th meeting for the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee.

In statement to KUNA, Ansari expressed his great joy at winning the award, hailing Kuwait's role in their fight against the deadly disease.

Ansari also donated the prize value to the drought-stricken Somali people.

The Iranian doctor holds a PhD in epidemiology from the University of Sydney in Australia and a degree in public health from Iran's University of Kerman.

He has conducted extensive research in the field of cancer control having worked as a lecturer at the Zahedan University of Medical Sciences in addition to heading several disease control centers in Iran. -- NNN-KUNA
