Srinagar (Scoop News) - Dr. Rajneesh Kapoor, Director, Division of Interventional Cardiology, Medanta Heart Institute while speaking on the topic “Recent Innovations & Future Directions in Cardiology”, on Saturday said that “Cardiovascular disease causes 29 per cent of all deaths globally each year, making it the world’s number one killer so, as a hub for family activities, and as a focal point in everyone’s life, the household is the perfect place to start taking action to improve heart health.
Dr.Rajneesh Kapoor was addressing the gathering of esteemed doctors ofSrinagar today in a Medical Seminar held at Srinagar today.
In the pursuit of excellence in healthcare and with an endeavor to spread awareness, MEDANTA-The Medicity from Gurgaon today conducted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session on Cardiology by Dr Rajneesh Kapoor Director Interventional Cardiology. Where in Dr. Saleemur Rehman, Director of Health Services Kashmir and Dr. Madhu Khular, Director Health Services Jammu respectively were the Principal Guests at the Continuous Medical Convention, Dr Satish Gupta; Controller of drugs & food control organization-J&K was Guest of honour in the seminar. Seminar was chaired by Dr. Ghazanfar Ali Professor & Head Dep’t of Cardiology; GMC and Srinagar .
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Rajneesh said that taking healthy diet, no smoking, being active are the steps to build a healthy Heart. By actioning the house-hold steps, you and your family can reduce the burden of CVD wherever you are in the world.
He informed that every year, 17.1 million lives are claimed by the global burden of cardiovascular disease, with 82 per cent of deaths occurring in low- and middle-income countries like India . This excessive number of deaths is particularly saddening, since through steps such as eating a healthy diet, regular physical activity and avoiding tobacco, the majority of these deaths could be prevented.
However, not all heart events are preventable. If you suspect a family member of having a heart attack, myocardial infraction or stroke, you seek medical help immediately. Over 70 per cent of all cardiac and breathing emergencies occur in the home when a family member is present and available to help a victim. There are treatments available through which the lives of your loved ones can be saved, added Dr. Rajneesh Kapoor.

He emphasizing on importance of correct information and awareness amongst the people which can prevent 80% of cardiac deaths as 60% population in India has wrong or incomplete information about Heart diseases.
If these actions do not restore a pulse or if the subject doesn't begin to breathe again call for help, stating that the casualty is having a cardiac arrest but stay with the patient, find out if any one else present knows CPR, provide artificial respiration immediately or begin CPR immediately i.e. cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Along with all these one needs to control on diet and should do regular exercise. Here are some do’s and don’ts for you.
Do’s
Choose foods lower in fat & calories
Eat smaller portions
Try not to gain extra wt. Lose wt if you are over wt. Try losing wt. slowly
Be physically active every day
Don’ts
Avoid ghee, butter, cream, cheese, oily curry’s, fried foods
Avoid mithai, pastries, cold drinks, junk foods, whole milk
Avoid too much salt, achar, papad, sauces & chutneys
Stop snacking - chips, Samosa’s, kachoris, peanut’s etc
Avoid heavy meals
Quit Smoking – SAY NO TO TOBACCO
Avoid stress & Anxiety, adopt relaxation techniques like yoga
Lower the intake of saturated fats
Eat more fruits & vegetables
Eat more fruits & green leafy vegetables in meals & sprouts as snacks
Serve fruit as a dessert more often
Avoid organ meats, egg yolk, and red meat
Be active every day
Walk a little further each day
Dance, skip, jump, run…. Take every opportunity to move your body
Use the stairs instead of the elevator
Cut back on alcoholic beverages
Alcohol raises blood pressure
Take the medicine the way your doctor tells you
Tell the Dr. Right away if the medicine makes you feel strange or sick
Make sure you don’t miss any days
Have your BP checked often to be sure your medicine is working the way you & your doctor planned
Never stop your medicine even if your BP is okay
