NEW DELHI (NNN-PTI) -- Raising the pitch on Lokpal issue, Anna Hazare today sat on a day-long fast here protesting against "watered-down" proposals of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the anti-graft measure.

INDIA'S ANTI-GRAFT ACTIVIST SITS ON DAY LONG FAST

NEW DELHI, Dec. 11 (NNN-Xinhua) -- India's anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare Sunday sat on a day long fast here to press for a strong Lokpal (Ombudsman) anti-corruption bill.

The 74-year-old Gandhian began his fast in the morning at Jantar Mantar Road in central New Delhi, where hundreds of his supporters gathered to show solidarity with him.

Anna also went to Rajghat, the memorial for Mahatma Gandhi, and offered prayers to the late "Father of the Nation".

"My fast has begun. I will not speak much now," he told his supporters.

Hazare Saturday slammed the government over delay in tabling the Lokpal Bill, threatening the latter with a "second fight for independence" to root out corruption. -- NNN-XINHUA
