PUDUCHERRY (NNN-UNI) -- Floral tributes were paid to those who had perished in the December 26, 2004 Tsunami, on the seventh anniversary of the calamity here today.
Puducherry State Fishermen Joint Action Committee organised a function at the Gandhi Thidal on the Beach Road to mark the occasion in which Chief Minister N Rangasamy, his Cabinet colleagues Rajavelu, Panneerselvam and T Thyagarajan, Speaker V Sabapathy and Legislator K Lakshminarayanan participated and poured milk and flower petals into the sea behind the Gandhi statue and paid homage.
They also lit candles and placed wreaths behind the Gandhi statue on the occasion. Joint Action Committee members and representatives of the fishermen villages also poured flower petals into the sea to pay homage.
The Leader of the Opposition and former chief minister V Vaithilingam and PCC President A V Subramanian among others also poured flower petels into the sea at the Gandhi statue to mark the occasion.
Fishermen from Ouppalam led by legislator A Anbazhagan lit candles and placed wreaths near the Duplex statue and offered poured flowers into the sea to mark the occasion.
At Veerampatinam beach, students of the Bharathiyar Palkalaikoodam made a sand sculpture of the tsunami disaster and paid homage.
Tributes were also paid at different fishermen villages, including Kalapet, Kanagachettikkulam and Moorthikuppam.--NNN-UNI
