NEW DELHI (NNN-Bernama) -- Over 1,300 delegates from 54 countries including Malaysia will participate in the three-day Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, an annual congreation of Indians meet that begins in Jaipur Saturday.

Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi said the sessions at the three-day conference will focus on a number of issues like the role of the Indian diaspora in inclusive growth and their problems.

Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar will be the chief guest at the 10th edition of the conclave.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will deliver the inaugural address Sunday, while President Pratibha Devisingh Patil will deliver the valedictory address Monday.

The president will also confer the Pravasi Bhartiya Samman awards, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported. Prime Minister Kamla is one of receipent of the award.

The theme of this year's conclave is 'Global Indian -- Inclusive Growth'.

The event is organised by the ministry of overseas Indian affairs in partnership with Rajasthan state government and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

The main thrust of the event is to find ways and means on how to make the younger generation of Persons of Indian origin understand India. We will discuss this at length at the meet,' Ravi said in a press conference here.

A dozen Indian Ministers, including Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, will address the meet with Ravi exuding confidence that desired results would be achieved at the end of the event.

On the first day, a seminar on social entrepreneurship will be held at the Birla Auditorium, Jaipur, with the aim to initiate innovative sustainable models in the water sector.

Another seminar on Solar Energy will focus on renewable energy with participants, including NRI experts and corporate honchos from the US, Switzerland and India.

Ravi added that investment opportunities in Rajasthan state will be showcased and avenues to facilitate business will be explored and discussed.


"Various Indian states will also be present to promote themselves as business destinations and participate in an exhibition," he said.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (English: Non-resident Indian Day), is celebrated in India on 9 January each year to mark the contribution of the overseas Indian community to the development of India.
