"We have arrested the pirates who had been handed over to us by some fishermen who captured them when the sea robbers intercepted three trawlers off Kenduakhali area in the Bay of Bengal with an aim to rob them," a police official said on condition of anonymity.
The incident took place Friday morning when a group of eight Bangladeshi pirates came in a motorized boat and attacked the three of the trawlers and fired at the Indian fishermen, killing three fishermen and injuring 10 others.
However, after a scuffle, the Indian fishermen managed to capture the eight pirates, but three of them jumped into the waters and escaped, the official said. --NNN-XINHUA
