NEW DELHI (NNN-XINHUA) -- Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, at a meeting here with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, said India-China relationship is one of the most important bilateral ties in the world.

There is enough space in the world for India and China to grow and work together, he added.

The Indian Government is firmly committed to its strategic and co-operative partnership with China and stands ready to make every effort to advance cooperation in all fields, Singh said at their Thursday meeting.

The Indian prime minister said New Delhi will host the fourth BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China South Africa) Summit in late March.

India believes this will present an important opportunity for member states to enhance cooperation and jointly rise to challenges.

The Indian side warmly welcomes the Chinese leader to attend the meeting and wishes to use the opportunity to push for further growth of its bilateral ties with China, said Singh.

Yang said under the current international and regional situation, China and India enjoyed broad prospects for growth of bilateral ties and that 2012 was an important year for the two countries to build on the past progress and usher in a better future.

The two sides have agreed on programs of exchanges and cooperation, which will increase friendship between the two peoples, advance exchanges and cooperation in various fields and send a positive signal about the growth of the relationship.

The two sides have also agreed to maintain high-level exchanges and contacts, strengthen diplomatic consultation and dialogue as well as exchanges between parties, legislatures and the militaries to enhance strategic and political mutual trust.

The Chinese foreign minister said the BRICS Summit in New Delhi at the end of March was expected to send a positive signal of win-win co-operation and unity among its members.

China stands ready to fully support and co-operate with the India to ensure the success of the Summit and make new contributions to BRICS co-operation.

"We will also like to use this opportunity to further enhance co-ordination and co-operation with the Indian side on international and regional affairs and promote regional and global peace and prosperity," said the Chinese foreign minister.

Yang arrived here on Feb. 29 for an official visit to India.

Yang also met Indian Vice-President Hamid Ansari, who said India-China relations were moving forward on the right track and that New Delhi was pleased to see productive results in bilateral co-operation in various fields.

India and China were committed to promoting regional peace, stability and prosperity, the vice-president said. He added that the two sides should further expand mutual investment, increase exchanges between business leaders, promote provincial and local-level exchanges and push for further growth of friendly co-operation to the benefit of the two peoples.

India and China had identical positions on such major global issues as climate change and it would be important for India and China to step up co-ordination and jointly uphold the common interests of the two countries and of developing countries as a whole, he said.

Yang said relations between China and India had kept a sound momentum of steady growth in recent years. There had been frequent visits and contacts between leaders of the two countries. -- NNN-XINHUA
