NAIROBI (NNN-KBC) -- Public Health and Sanitation Minister Beth Mugo says that multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) remains the greatest challenge in the health sector in this country.
The drug resistant TB is the second leading cause of death after HIV/AIDS, she said here Wednesday ahead of the observation of World TB day on Saturday.
She said a study conducted in Kenya in 2010 revealed that about 106,083 cases of tuberculosis were reported out of which 7,426 people lost their lives.
Mugo said tuberculosis was a health issue as well as a developmental matter which needed funding from both the government and donors.
She also called on civil society and the private sector to partner with government in the fight against TB. -- NNN-KBC
