TIRUCHIRAPPALLI, India (NNN-Bernama) -- The Indian Council for Historical Research (ICHR) is getting ready to teach fading classical languages in the country as part of it plans to preserve them for posterity.

The Press Trust of India (PTI) reported, many classical languages which reviously enjoyed a prime position are on the verge of extinction in the country as it was not being used now.

ICHR has drawn up an ambitious project to teach the dying languages to senior teachers for the benefit of the next generation.

"Two languages, including Persian and Prakrith have been chosen to be taught to scholars. The reason for the selection of the two languages is that most of the inscriptions in the country are in those two languages," Dr Ishrat Alam, ICHR member secretary, told PTI.

He also said that ICRH is coming out with a dictionary of economic, social and administrative terms with reference to South Asian Inscriptions. --NNN-BERNAMA
