NEW DELHI (NNN-UNI) -- Noting that dealing with the problem of militancy is a 'shared responsibility' of states as well as the Centre, Home Minister P Chidambaram today said the Central Government would soon begin consultations with states to evolve a common hostage policy.
Replying to a short notice question in the Rajya Sabha (Upper House) , Mr Chidambaram said, "My view is that dealing with militancy is a shared responsibility. It is also the Centre's duty under Article 325 of the Constitution to tackle terrorism and militancy. Working together, we can meet these challenges."
Stressing on the need for a common hostage policy, the Minister said he had asked his department to begin consultations with State governments to work on a common hostage policy. --NNN-UNI
