INDORE, India (NNN-Bernama) -- Sky gazers in India have a reason to be happy this month as a partial solar eclipse is expected to be seen in the eastern part of the country on May 21, a scientist said.
"The eclipse will start at 1539 hours and end at 1906 hours Indian time," Jiwaji laboratory and Ujjain director Dr Rajendra Prakash Gupta told Press Trust of India.
The moon will cover 94.5 per cent of the sun at the height of the eclipse, he said.
Dr Rajendra said this will be the first eclipse to be seen in India this year, adding that the partial solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and earth in such a way that from the earth, a portion of the sun is hidden behind the moon.
He said a partial lunar eclipse will occur on June 4 but would not be visible in India. --
