Protesters chant slogans against the ruling Military Council at Tahrir Square in Cairo on 20 June 2012. Meanwhile the results of Egypt’s presidential run-off have been delayed by the election authorities, further raising tension across the polarised country. The results were to be announced on Thurs 21 June 2012, but the Elections Commission said it needed more time to look into complaints presented by the candidates, but did not say when it might be ready, the state news agency Mena reported. CAIRO (NNN-KUNA) -- Egypt's Presidential Election Committee has said that it will not make public the results of the run-off vote on Thursday as scheduled.

The committee justified its decision by saying that it still needed more time to study appeals from the candidates.

The presidential run-off took place between the Muslim Brotherhood's candidate, Mohamed Morsi, and former President Hosni Mubarak's last Prime Minister, Ahmed Shafik.

The election committee said in a release Wednesday that it has decided to continue to examine the appeals, and therefore needed more time before announcing the final results. -- NNN-KUNA
