NEW DELHI, India (NNN-UNI) -- Bottom ten per cent of rural India lives on Rs 503.49 a month, government informed Parliament today.
'' Average monthly per capita expenditure of bottom 10 per cent of rural population in rural areas is Rs 503.49 only,'' said Statistics and Programme Implementation Minister Srikant Kumar Jena in a written reply in Lok Sabha (Lower House).
This figure, he added, was based on provisional results of household consumer expenditure survey conducted by National Sample Survey Organisation(NSSO)in 20011-12.
Replying to another question, he said sixth economic census of India would be conducted from October 2012 to June 2013, adding Rs 763.49 crore has been provided for undertaking the massive exercise which is done once in five year. The fifth economic census was held in 2005.(One Crore: ten million)
Under the economic census, government gets update on total number of agricultural and non-agricultural establishments excluding crop production and plantation in the country, and the number of workers engaged by such establishments, as well as their distribution in a state, district, village and ward level for making a comprehensive analysis of the structure of the Indian economy.
The economic census will be conducted in collaboration with all state governments and Union Territory administrations, who will engage enumerators and supervisors for the field work.
For monitoring the field work, data processing and validation, and writing of reports, the government has approved creation of 30 posts at the Centre and 235 posts in the states and UTs, he added. --NNN-UNI
