NEW DELHI, India (NNN-Xinhua) -- The death toll from landslides and flash floods in northern Indian state of Uttarakhand has risen to 33 while 35 people remained missing by Saturday morning, reported Press Trust of India.

Ukhimath area in Rudraprayag district of the hilly state was the worst hit as a cloudburst took place in the wee hours on Friday, killing at least 29 people, said the report.

Authorities have launched rescue and relief operations with the help of the army and border security forces and a helicopter for evacuation, while communication and power lines were disrupted and traffic along several roads, including national highways in the area, was shut down completely partially, according to local officials.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna has ordered allocation of about 20 million U.S. dollars for relief works.

Last month, landslide and flooding killed at least 28 in the Himalayan state. -- NNN-XINHUA---NNN
