The Minister of State of Tourism, Shri Sultan Ahmed informed Rajya Sabha today that, the actual impact of recent problems with the United States (US) economy as well as the global economy on the tourism industry in India would be known after some gap.

The number of Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in India during 1st to 17th August, 2011 is estimated to be 260641 as compared to 252755 during the same period of 2010, registering a growth of 3.1%. The country – wise and port - wise (including Goa) break – up of these figures are not available.

After studying the data on FTAs in India from US and other countries in the next 2–3 months, an assessment of the impact including the need of a study with specific reference to Goa can be made. (PIB)
