LAGOS (NNN-PANA) -- Living true to its name, Boko Haram (Western Education is Sin) has embarked on a new campaign of burning schools in its home base of Maiduguri, capital of northern Borno state.
At least five primary schools have been burnt in the city in the past week by suspected Islamist members.
In the latest of such cases, the Gomari Costain Primary School was razed overnight Tuesday. The fire is believed to have been set by sect members.
Some teachers in the school told newsmen that a group of persons, mainly teenagers, drove away the security guard in the night before setting the school ablaze.
Borno police spokesman Samuel Tizhe confirmed the incident, saying ''we have started investigation but no arrest made yet.''
The primary schools that have been burnt since last week include the Maiduguri Experimental School, Kwanar Yobe; the Budum and Kulo Gomna Primary Schools as well as the Abba Ganaram Primary School, all in the Borno state capital. -- NNN-PANA
