THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, India (NNN-Bernama) -- The Public Health department in south India's Kerala state has ordered 18 medical laboratories to be closed and served notice to another 117 following a raid on Saturday.
Press Trust of India reported the notice was given for the labs' failure to maintain standards and for employing staff without mandatory educational qualifications.
The crackdown was part of the "Safe Thiruvananthapuram" campaign launched by the health administration following a fever outbreak in the district.
The raids were conducted at 154 private medical laboratories, two dental clinics, eight scanning centres and 20 X-ray units.
Many were found to be ill-equipped and lacked basic standards. -- NNN-BERNAMA
