NEW DELHI, India   (NNN-Xinhua) -- The Indian government said Friday that it held talks with insurgent group United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) in an attempt to instill permanent peace in the northeastern state of Assam hit by three decades of insurgency.

Indian officials, led by Home Secretary R.K. Singh, met top ULFA leaders led by the group's chairman Arbinda Rajkhowa in the Indian capital and discussed various issues, including how to find a permanent solution to bring peace to Assam.

"The talks were fruitful," Singh told media.

He indicated that discussions included ending the violence permanently apart from the steps for implementation of the ceasefire agreement between the government and ULFA. -- NNN-XINHUA
