THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, India (NNN-Bernama) -- Former president of India and space scientist A P J Abdul Kalam said it is time India took up greater space challenges like launching manned space mission to the moon and mars, Press Trust of India reported.

While addressing the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology's convocation ceremony here on Thursday, Kalam suggested the country also develop hypersonic reusable vehicles for cost-effective space transportation and solar satellites to harness energy for power and drinking water.

Kalam, who is the institute's chancellor, said India could come up with navigational satellites and a mechanism for refueling, repair and maintenance of satellites in geostationary orbit. -- NNN-BERNAMA
